Routine/regular dental examination and maintenance

Routine dental examination and floating (also known as rasping), is performed every 6-12 months, usually at the horse’s yard.

This is performed under light sedation with the head rested on a padded headstand thus enabling a thorough examination, and rasping, reaching right at the back of the oral cavity, where access is often restricted.

Sedation is very safe, short-acting and decreases the risk of injury and stress to the horse, vet and handler.

Digital dental charts are e-mailed to owners.

The visit, examination, rasping and dental chart are all included in the price. Group discounts are available.

Advanced diagnostics and treatments

Oral endoscope examination - the use of a high-definition camera projecting the image of the oral cavity onto a screen visible to owners and referring vets. It allows the detection even the smallest of abnormalities and is an essential aid to advanced procedures. An endoscopic examination is recommended if there is a perceived dental issue.

HD, wireless, digital radiography - (instant, horse-side images). Radiography (X-ray) allows examination of the root of the tooth (the apex), the surrounding bone and the closely related sinus compartments. It helps to aid diagnosis, assess tooth viability and plan treatments.

Tooth extractions -including oral techniques plus advanced keyhole techniques for fractured teeth e.g. minimally invasive trans-buccal extraction (MTE).

Diastema/periodontal disease treatment - a common disease encountered in all ages of horse which causes painful inflammation of the gums.

Fillings (infundibular restorations) and other restorative work to stop tooth decay, preventing tooth root infections and/or fracture.

Endodontic (root canal therapy). Sometimes it is possible to avoid extraction by performing a root canal treatment.
